ABOUT THIS WINE: Ask anyone if they know Tuscany and chances are that, before you know it, they'll be nattering on about its haunting landscape, fascinating history and fine wines - even if they've never visited. Such is the prestige and affection in which this region is held worldwide, and with good reason.

Wine is made all over Tuscany, but it is the Tyrrhenian coast that is the region's latest, most exciting discovery because of its capacity for producing reds with intense flavour but smooth, rounded texture.

This wine is a blend of the local Sangiovese variety with a smidge of Merlot; it is well balanced and silky, with flavours of tobacco and ripe black fruit.

SERVING: This "baby Tuscan" is an ideal match for char-grilled pork chops or lamb kebabs. Ideal serving temperature 18°C
